A quick look at Puzzle & Dragons Z for the 3DS

Lately I have been playing a good deal of Puzzle & Dragons on my iPhone, and I enjoy the game quite a bit. While reading up on it however, I discovered that there is a Nintendo 3DS version in the works called Puzzle & Dragons Z.

Screens and trailer for Lightning Returns? Yes please

I know that Final Fantasy XIII is not a series everyone enjoys, but I certainly had fun with the first two instalments and am looking forward to this final chapter in the series. Square Enix is slated to release this title in Japan on November 21st, North America on February 11th and in Europe on February 14th.

Review: Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

The Shin Megami Tensei series does not quite have the same reputation for brutal difficulty that say, Fire Emblem has, but the series can be somewhat difficult for newcomers and is rooted very firmly in a lot of the 'typical' JRPG principles (exploration, experience grinding, turn-based combat, etc).

Dating Sim White Album 2 to see Vita Release

White Album 2: The Other Side of Happiness was first released as a two part game for the PC back in 2010 and 2011. Because there is an anime based on this story releasing in Japan this fall, Aquaplus decided to port the title over with both parts for the Sony PlayStation Vita.

Dark Souls II looks great visually

Of course, the real test will come when it is time to play the game. Here everything is visually detailed and interesting, but some of the screenshots certainly help convey the sense of menace and often times oppressive atmosphere.

This one looks like it might be a bit different.

Some impressive sales numbers for Pokemon

Over the weekend at a game show in Tokyo, The Pokemon Company released some pretty interesting statistics. Pokemon Black/White sold 15.42 million copies as of March 31 of this year, and Pokemon Black 2/White 2 moved 7.81 million copies. In total, 172 million Pokemon games have been sold worldwide. That is a lot of critter collecting.

A dozen glimpses at Dragon Quest Monsters 2

Square Enix plans to release Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key for the Nintendo 3DS. This is a remake of two separate Gameboy Color titles. More than just a remake however, this title adds a bunch of new critters while leveraging multiplayer battle support.

Looks like we get to wait a bit longer on Fairy Fencer F

One of the upcoming JRPG titles I have been looking forward to, Fairy Fencer F, will no longer be releasing on September 19th.

Ro-Kyu-Bu coming to Vita

It looks more and more like the Vita is becoming a destination for Japanese themed video games, much the way the PSP has been for several years now. Kadokawa Games had been rumoured to be releasing Ro-Kyu-Bu: Secret Shutter Chance for the PlayStation Portable, but in fact has announced that the title will be coming to the Vita instead.

A trio of Atlus 3DS games on sale for a limited time

Who here loves a bit of Atlus RPG gaming? I know my hand was raised (which makes typing this all the more difficult. I am just saying...)

Multiple Pieces coming to the Nintendo 3DS

Two different 3DS titles centred around the manga will be coming out from Namco Bandai and Ganbarion. One Piece: Romance Dawn is an action RPG for release in Japan right about now, while One Piece Unlimited Cruise: Red is more of an adventure game with an anticipated release in Japan on November 21st of this year.

The Origin of the Alchemist?

There is not a lot of information here, but enough to pique the interest of our staff given that Atelier is a favourite series here - and probably Matt's favourite RPG of this generation.

Images, art and trailers - the world of Pokemon X and Y

Pokemon has proven to be one of Nintendo's most endearing franchises over the years, with fans of all ages enjoying the combination of RPG elements with critter collection. Game Freaks will be releasing Pokemon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS in North America, Europe and Japan on October 12, 2013.

Spira and summoning - more beautiful than ever

Set to release later this year, This Square Enix remaster of Final Fantasy X and X-2 ranks among the titles I am most anticipating this year. This title will release on both the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and those who pre-order it are still able to get the free upgrade to the collector's edition (a co-worker of mine just did so a few days ago).

Trophy guide for Time and Eternity

So I recently played through Time and Eternity, which released on the PlayStation Network a few weeks ago. It is a JRPG with a lot of dialogue, some grinding and plenty of quests. For the most part, I enjoyed it, despite some flaws. I summarised it as the whole being more fun than each of the individual parts would probably lead you to believe.

Review: Tales of Xillia (PS3)

The Tales series has a long history; 14 main games and a handful of side quests. Through that time there has been a remarkably consistent approach to game design and though there's been general improvements and tweaks to the spreadsheets operating the game, for the player, there's a familiarity about the Tales games that is greater than what you'll find in most other JRPGs.

That's what the fans of this series seem to want, but that aside, Xillia proves one thing quite conclusively - the Tales series needs a rethink. It's just not advancing as quickly as its immediate rivals.

Trailer and screens for Monster Hunter Frontier G

Capcom has been releasing a lot of screens and information about their upcoming 3DS Monster Hunter title, but now we have a new trailer and a handful of additional screenshots for their PlayStation 3 and Wii U game.

Combat in Sengoku Basara 4 looks pretty crazy

Capcom is keeping the screenshots and art for Sengoku Basara 4 coming. This week they are introducing a trio of new characters: Yamanaka Shikanosuke (who seems to have a deer with him in every picture), Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Takenaka Shigeharu.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate shows off some familiar faces

Tecmo Koei and Omega Force are bringing Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate to the PS3 and Vita on September 26 of this year.

Various bits of Street Fighter news

Street Fighter is getting a bit of extra love from Capcom over the next year. Some of these feel like they are pages taken out of the Tekken playbook - and well, one announcement directly relates to Tekken. I will start with that one first.

Trailer: Tetris meets... Pokemon?

Given the popularity of monster collection titles like Pokemon and Puzzle & Dragons, it was probably only a matter of time until someone decided to take the same approach with a more well-known puzzle game like Bejeweled or Tetris as the game's base.

Several trailers for The Legend of Heroes

Well, it was several trailers, but I rolled them into one larger one embedded in the video down below. The videos show off some of this JRPG's gameplay, while also introducing several of the characters: Rean, Laura, Jusis, Emma, Gaius and Sara.

Monster Hunter has a huge following, and Monster Hunter 4 for the Nintendo 3DS is shaping up to look really good.
