We have not seen a lot of info on Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers, a Namco Bandai title slated for release in Japan on October 17th. It should see releases in North America and Europe this fall (rumoured to be in November still).
a recent showing in Tokyo, Square Enix showed off some new screens of
Lightning Returns;Final Fantasy XIII. Over at Digitally Downloaded, we have shown a lot of screenshots
from this game (just click here, here and here to see some of the articles) and even had a piece recently by Matt talking a bit about one of the upcoming outfits for Lightning.
Atsushi Miyauchi, director of Dynasty Warriors 8, likes Australia. The first time he visited it was for his honeymoon. Now he's down under a second time, to speak to media at the first PAX Australia about the imminent release of Dynasty Warriors 8, a game that from early reviews and impressions is one of the finest ever.
So understandably he (and his team) are riding a wave of positive energy right now. The previous major game in the series, Dynasty Warriors 7, was a critical and commercial success in itself, and it seems like the series is finally doing away with the previous reputation it had for repetitive, annual releases with little changed from the series' beginnings in the PlayStation 2 era.
Time and Eternity is one of the most unique JRPGs I have ever played. Given that I've played a lot of JRPGs that's a pretty impressive feat.
As a disclaimer up-front, this is a game that has been getting shocking reviews from many corners, and if you're keen to read that other point of view, click on that link for a second opinion. But I strongly suspect that a great deal of the ire that is being thrown at the game has as much to do with it being fundamentally different to any other JRPG than anything else.
For my part, I really enjoy the game. It's not perfect, but as someone who does enjoy genuine attempts at creativity, I've been able to easily overlook these faults to appreciate the broader picture.
