A quick look at Puzzle & Dragons Z for the 3DS

Lately I have been playing a good deal of Puzzle & Dragons on my iPhone, and I enjoy the game quite a bit. While reading up on it however, I discovered that there is a Nintendo 3DS version in the works called Puzzle & Dragons Z.

I immediately began to wonder what that might look like. While the iOS game is certainly fun, it has a lot of the hallmarks of free-to-play titles such as microtransactions and a limited a number of moves you can make based on how much stamina you have. Often creating and expanding on your social network of friends is key to success.

The Nintendo 3DS version will be an RPG game with an emphasis on taming creatures - very appropriate if Pokemon-like. Eggs are collected after combat and they can be hatched to help you increase your stable. Winning battles gives you puzzle pieces you can use to complete a picture of your monster. This will allow you to evolve your creature, and apparently this system will house multiple evolutionary paths.

It will be interesting to see how this title transitions from free to purchased game going forward.
